Bereavement Leave Policy

1. Purpose and Scope 

The Company understands that the employees need time off from work to grieve, attend the funeral and other related personal matters in case of death of an immediate family member.  This policy establishes rules and procedures regarding the bereavement leave entitlements for the employees.

Unless otherwise specified by the Company, the bereavement policy applies to both full time and part-time employees of the Company (collectively referred to as the "Employees"). 

2. Eligibility and Entitlement 

(a) All Employees are eligible to apply for the bereavement leave from the date of commencement of employment with the Company.

(b) Employees are entitled to a maximum of NUMBER  days of CHOOSE bereavement leave in the event of the death of Employees' immediate family member. These days do not have to be consecutive. 

(c) Employees may use casual leave or annual leave days in case of death of a non-immediate family member.

(d) For the purposes of the bereavement policy. the members of the immediate family include Employee's spouse, parents, stepparents, sisters, brothers, children, stepchildren, grandparents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or grandchild. 

(e) Bereavement leave must be used within twenty (20) days of the death of an immediate family member.

3. Procedure to Schedule Bereavement Leave

An Employee who wishes to take time off due to the death of an immediate family member should notify his or her supervisor as soon as possible. The Company may require the Employee to provide verification of the need for the bereavement leave.

4.   Additional Bereavement Leave

If the Employee requires additional days off for bereavement, an Employee may request for unpaid leave or annual leave to supplement their bereavement leave. The Company may grant the Employees request be subject to the terms of the Leave without Pay Policy or Annual Leave Policy of the Company, whichever is applicable.

In case an Employee suffers a family bereavement while on annual leave, the Employee may claim for bereavement leave and take the annual leave on a future date. 

5.  Unused Bereavement Leave 

Bereavement leave is not cumulative, therefore, the unused days will not be carried forward into the next calendar year.
