1. Summary

 

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment to offer an optimum work environment for all our staff to work safely and effectively, free from substance misuse, especially alcohol and drugs.

 

The purpose of this policy is to inform and increase the effects of substance misuse, especially alcohol and drugs:

a) All staff should be well aware and informed of their alcohol and drug misuse responsibilities, including any related problems.

b) To encourage any staff experiencing an alcohol or drug-related problem to seek help as soon as possible.

c) To assure that staff experiencing an alcohol or drug-related problem are dealt with sympathetically, consistently, and fairly without discrimination.

 

This policy serves as a general guideline, and it is not intended to apply to all “one-off” incidences or offences caused by alcohol or drug misuse at or outside work where there is no evidence that suggests the otherwise, which may damage our reputation, and which are likely to be dealt by our Disciplinary Committee under the Disciplinary Procedure.

 

This policy applies to all employees, including contractors, agency workers, officers, casual workers, interns, and volunteers.
