We were very surprised this morning when our bankers returned the bill we drew on you for SUM on WHEN marked ‘Refer to drawer’.

Since we are aware from personal knowledge that your firm is financially sound, we presume that failure to honour the bill was due to some mistake. We shall therefore be glad if you will explain the reason. At the same time, we must ask you to send by return the sum due on the bill.
