We were sorry to learn from your letter that some of the cases sent to you on DATE had been tampered with. We confirm that when they left our warehouse each of these cases contained the full quantity. The cases were in good order when they left our premises; in support of this, we hold the carrier’s clean receipt.
As we sent the goods by rail at your request, the railway company must be regarded as your agents. We cannot, therefore, accept any responsibility for the losses and can only suggest that you make the claim for compensation directly with the railway company. We are quite willing to support your claim in whatever way we can.
The missing items will be replaced but we will have to charge them to your account. In the circumstances, we will allow you an extra discount of D_R.
