Document Description

This document is a Principal Letter Format and a Letter to Principal applying for primary/secondary school admission of a student on the waiting list, with a description of why the child is a good fit for the school.

There are several reasons which put a child on a school's waiting list: they might have some reservations about your application, or competing applicants are just exceptionally bright. As the school haven't made their final decision yet, sending a letter of continued interest shows dedication and a strong interest in the target school and provides a chance for the admission committee to learn more about the child.

In this letter, parents acknowledge their child's waitlisted status and would like to plea for a second chance to present their child's case for the school's consideration. Upon admitting the competitive selection process by the school, parents state their continued interest in submitting an application for their child.

While academic and extra-curricular records are fundamental qualities for a student, parents believe the character of a student plays an essential role as a key distinguishing factor. This letter explains the outstanding features and characters of the child, as evidenced by the child's performance in his/her previous school and his/her previous school's culture and atmosphere.

This letter also states that the parents have great regard for the school's reputation and philosophy, and it emphasised that their child is a good fit for the school's values and philosophy.

The letter ends with restating parents' interest in the school and leaving their contact details for further communications.

How to use this Document?

This letter should be used by parents to explain why their child is a good fit for the school and he/ she embodies the school's mission and values upon being waitlisted. This template can be used for application to primary or secondary schools with high reputations.

This letter should be addressed to the principal/ admission committee of the target school if parents receive notification of their child's waitlisted status. This letter should be sent as soon as possible after receiving such notification.

The parent should attach required documents for application for easy referencing, such as copies of previous report cards, award certificates and identity documents.

However, if the school expressly indicated they do not want further information, the parent should not write a letter of continued interest as it might show non-compliance to the school's rules.
